A path traced backward.
Every step of this story led to the next. Follow it down, from where we stand today to the idea that started it all.
Growing, and teaching the next generation
Care keeps expanding at the Islamic Center of Detroit, alongside a virtual, student-run clinic at the University of Michigan and school-based counseling at the International Islamic Academy in Detroit. Today we are also a teaching site, where student interns learn from experienced clinicians how to offer care that is culturally sensitive and spiritually grounded.

A first for North America
MY Mental Wellness became the first fully staffed community mental health clinic established inside a masjid in North America. It was a milestone years in the making, and a home for care rooted in faith and community.

The clinic takes root
As the need for therapy grew beyond what programs alone could meet, the Islamic Center of Detroit hired its first therapist. It was the first quiet step toward a clinic of its own.

Where it began.
It started with a youth committee at the Islamic Center of Detroit, led by Yusra Muflahi, who saw how deeply the Muslim-American and Arab-American community around Detroit needed mental health support. MY Mental Wellness was founded to bring that care into the open, through programs, trainings, and workshops on the subjects too often left unspoken: substance use, addiction, anger, and preparing for marriage.
One idea, planted in community, that grew into a clinic.
